At the beginning of the film, while listening to the No.7 track of The Last Word OST, Opening, we notice that the camera focuses on several corners of the room. It seems to be a static sketching: a door, dressing table, hanging decorations, and a side view of the heroine, Harriet…at first, all we hear is simple low-pitch chord from the piano with triple-time melody. Then, violoncello and electronic organ enjoy in. Even though movie is supposed to be a dynamic form of art, we do not see any image that is coherently moving. The great part about this track is that you can understand the loneliness and boringness while only listening to the song. The song has an ability to create clear photos for you and remind you the corresponding images from the movie. The melody is relatively monotonous and keeps repeating the same rhythm. It foreshadows the heroine’s lonely and boring current life and creates a contrast with the subsequent life.

The heroine is considered to be intrepid and independent. Her above-mentioned personalities and penetrating insight of the society provide her with impressive accomplishments that are approved by the society. However, deeply in her heart, she lacks friendly interactions and relationships with others. This song seems to remind the heroine that she needs to change her way of looking at this world. Only when she understands how to improve her personality while utilizing her own original advantages, her life will be more pleasant and enjoyable.
